The city of Rhodes was built in 408 BC. During Hellenistic years the residents of the island had the control of the whole Aegean Sea, while after the years of Rome and Byzantium, Rhodes has a new season of growth, occupied by the Gladiator Knights of Saint John battalion. Medieval City of Rhodes, built during that time, today in almost excellent condition, is one of the island's most appreciable monuments.
